I tried a shorter version with this painting; before I read the rest of your essay I zoomed in on the image and studied it for several minutes. One thing I considered was the size, and I imagined it to be somewhat small. So I was delighted when you included a picture that gave us a sense of its scale!
And yes it's crazy how much size can influence an experience of visual art. We're on screens so much now that I think it's easy to conceptualize everything on a phone/computer-sized scale. All the more reason to go to museums and exhibits, to break free! :)
